Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain chlorophyll in high purity simply and rapidly, by washing chlorophyll(C) adsorbed from a crude C dispersion in petroleum ether with petroleum ether to eluate and remove yellow pigment impurities.
CONSTITUTION: Crude chlorophyll containing yellow pigments prepared by the dioxane method is dispersed in petroleum ether containing a very small amount, e.g. 0.1 vol.%, of ethyl ether. The chlorophyll in the dispersion is adsorbed by a powerful adsorbent, e.g. powdery suger, and washed with petroleum ether to eluate and remove yellow pigments. The chlorophyll is then eluated by ethyl ether.
