Abstract

PURPOSE:To shorten the reading time by comparing the phases of index signals from plural groups of magnetic disk devices and reference signals so that a drive motor is controlled to synchronously drive the disk devices. CONSTITUTION:The index signals read out of magnetic disk devices 1 and 2, which are driven through motor drive units 7 and 8, are compared in phase with reference signals by the phase comparator circuit 4 of a magnetic disk controller 6 so that the drive units 7 and 8 are controlled to have the same phase through a motor drive unit control circuit 5. Then, the devices 1 and 2 are synchronized in timing and position to rotate. As a result, the track change from one device 1 to the other device 2 is performed reliably at the end of the reading operation of one of the tracks so that the stand-by time is eliminated to shorten the reading time.
