Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce the title carbonate having a diameter and grain size suitable for use as a filler for rubber, plastics, etc. in an industrially advantageous manner by adding NH3 to a sodium bicarbonate soln. so that a slurry after reaction shows a specified pH value and by adding a CaCl2 soln. to the NH3-added soln. followed by reaction at a low temp.
CONSTITUTION: Gaseous ammonia or ammonia water is added to an aq. soln. of sodium bicarbonate so that the pH of a slurry after reaction is regulated to at least 6.8. An aq. soln. of calcium chloride of below the saturation concn. is then added to the ammonia-added soln. with stirring, held at below 45°C, and reacted for above 5 min. The reaction product crystallized is filtered, washed with water, and dried to obtain vaterite type calcium carbonate with a diameter of 0.1W1 μm.
