Abstract
PURPOSE: To efficiently produce petaloid calcium silicate by reacting a water sol. silicate such as sodium silicate and a water sol. Ca cpd. such as CaCl2 at a specific temp. in a specific solvent ratio.
CONSTITUTION: A water sol. silicate such as sodium or potassium silicate and a water sol. Ca cpd. such as CaCl2 are reacted at 150W250°C in a solvent ratio of 5W100, pref. 15W70 times as muchd as the amt. of calcium silicate formed by wt. Thus, porous petaloid calcium silicate is obtd. which is represented by formula 2CaO.3SiO2.nSiO2.mH2O (where each of n and m is a positive no. and n=0.1W 10). This product has a bulk specific vol. above 4 cc/g and absorbs oil in an amt. above 2 cc/g. It is used as an adsorbig carrier, a flatting agent and a filter aid.
