Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an automatic and effective scum eliminating method for blend fluid that flows from aeration tank to settling basin by shrinkaging and destroying scums having larger foam strength after expanding and exploding weak scums.
CONSTITUTION: Scum that is developed in the aeration tank3 stays on the blend fluid surface in a scum chamber 11 flowing through an upper stream submerged weir 5 a. When the fluid surface is covered with scums, control timer sends a singal to close air valve 9 and activate vacuum pump 7 that drains air in air reservoir out of scum chamber through exhaust tube 8. This causes lower external scum pressure than scum inside pressure to expand and explode scums having smaller air foam strength. Then vacuum pump 7 is brought to stop and air valve 9 is opened, which causes an abrupt flow of air into air reservoir 12 through air tube 10. Thus increased scum external pressure immediately compresses and destroyes expanded scums having larger scum strength.
