Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a pattern collating unit which obtains a collation degree with a high precision in consideration of difference in pattern quality and local difference.
CONSTITUTION: Collation operation circuit 3 reads out successively the pattern signal of each region of two collated patterns from pattern memories 1 and 2 performs collation and operation to obtain respective areas of the first and the second patterns and the area of superposed parts and obtains collation degree F in each region by operation. Further, circuit 3 obtains a level average value of density in each region of two collated patterns from density pattern memories 4 and 5 and inputs it to data memory 6. Decision circuit 7 reads out data stored in the data memory and performs operation and collation to detect a low-collation degree region and obtains the collation degree of the whole by comparison and operation. On a basis of this collation degree of the whole, it is discriminated whether collated patterns are same or not.
