Abstract

PURPOSE: To execute collation with high accuracy, by deriving a feature amount showing a difference of 2 patterns at every mutually corresponding area, and a feature amount shoring a state which exerts influence on said feature amount, and executing an overall decision.

CONSTITUTION: All bits arrayed in accordance with the axis of x-y coordinates in pattern memories 1, 2 are divided into plural areas, and a feature amount regarding each area is calculated. In the first feature amount calculating processor 5, when patterns of the memories 1, 2 have been doubled, that which has divided the sum of areas of parts which have not been doubled, by the whole area of pattern 1 is derived, and it is stored in a data memory 7. The second feature amount calculating processor 6 reads out, for instance, a variable density data from variable density memories 3, 4, as a feature amount exerting influenece on the first feature amount, with regard to each area, derives a means value of density relating to an area containing point having density exceeding a prescribed value, and inputs as the second feature amount, to the memory 7. A collation deciding processor 8 executes an overall decision of the whole picture by use of said 2 feature amounts.
