Abstract

PURPOSE: To decide the coagulation pattern of a container bottom accurately by providing a photodetector with elements that photodetect images at the lowest part of the inclined bottom surface of a reaction container, at its circumference and outside of it.
CONSTITUTION: On photodetector 7, four photodetecting elements 7-2W7-5 are arranged around the 1st center photodetecting element 7-1 and five photodetecting elements 7-6W7-10 are also arranged outside of them to photodetect center, middle and circumferential images. Next, the outputs of element 7-1 and one element 7-6 of a group of elements at the circumferential parts are supplied to subtracting circuit 8, and those of element 7-1 and elements 7-2W7-5 are to adding circuit 9; and the output of circuit 9 and those of elements 7-6W7-10 are supplied to subtracting circuit 10, and the outputs of circuits 8 and 10 to deciding circuit 11. Circuit 11 makes a decision on noncoagulation when only circuit 8 generates its output, intermediate coagulation when both the circuits generate their outputs, or coagulation when circuit 8 generates on output and circuit 10 generates a low level output. Consequently, the pattern can be decided with accuracy.
