Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the size the rigidity of flocs and to improve dehydration ratio of sludge by admixing an acid, oxidizer, and flocculant to sludge for pretreatment before dehydration.
CONSTITUTION: The sludge formed by draining treatment of sewage, urine, and the like is stored in a sludge storage tank 1, and then subjected to pretreatment in which the sludge is added with a strong acid 5 such as sulfuric acid in a first mixing tank 2 and then with chemicals 6 (an oxidizer such as hydrogen peroxide and an inorganic flocculant such as a calcium salt) in a second mixing tank 3. The oxidizer oxidizes and decomposes organic substances in the sludge; the acid adjusts the pH of the sludge, lowers the potential of hydrophilic sol, and improves the flocculation function of the flocculant. When dehydration is conducted in a dehydrator 4, the sludge is dehydrated well and the amount of cake formed is reduced because the flocs are large in size and rigid due to the function of the chemicals 6 added.
