Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform phase controlling without increasing ink jet head length by charging the ink drops by a charging electrode to a polarity opposite from the charging polarity at the printing for successive two or more drops and charging to neutral or the same polarity for the next two or more drops. CONSTITUTION:Ink liquid is injected from a nozzle 2 in the form of ink drops by being applied with vibrations with an excitation signal generator 7. The ink drops emitting through a charging electrode 3 are detected by an ink drop detecting means 11 and a frequency discrimination circuit 12 discriminates frequencies by integrating the ink drop detecting signal pulses. When said frequency is below the judgement value, said circuit emits a significance signal and the phase of the charging signal is determined by a phase setting circuit 10. Charging of the ink drops is accomplished by charging the successive two or more drops to a polarity opposite from the charging polarity at the printing and to neutral or the same polarity for the next two or more drops by the retrieval signal generator, whereby there is no need for making head length particularly long. In addition, the accuracy of detection is enhanced because two or more ink drops agglomerate and are detected as large diameter ink drops.
