Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce reduced pellets of low sulfur-content, by heating green pellets of high sulfur-content, previously heated and dried, in a rotary kiln together with reducing agent and desulfurizing agent.
CONSTITUTION: Green pellets contg. >0.05% S, ≤15mm in particle diameter are manufactured from high-sulfur raw material, e.g., iron-making dust, steel-making dust, or collected dust. The pellets are heated, dried, hardened, then heated in a rotary kiln together with reducing agent, e.g., coal, coke breeze, or charcoal etc., and desulfurizing agent, e.g., raw dolomite, calcined dolomite, lime stone, or quick lime etc. Hereby, the pellets are reduced and desulfurized to reduced pellets of low sulfur content in the rotary kiln, and are used also as raw material for iron making.
