Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve quality and appearance preventing unwanted dispersion with directionality given to released mercury when released by means of a release passage for regulating the direction of mercury when released provided in a metal capsule in which mercury is sealed.
CONSTITUTION: An electrode section 1 is composed of inner lead-in wires 3 projected from a flare section 2 and an electrode filament 5, coated with an electron radioactive matter 4, stretched across the tips of the wires 3. A metal capsule 6 having mercury 7 is supported on one of the wires 3 with the base section 6a thereof welded to the wire 3 and the tip 6b thereof projecting into the discharge space. In addition, a mercury release passage 8 is formed in the section 6a. The capsule 6 is heated at the final process of evacuation in the sealed bulb to raise the mercury vapor pressure, whereby part of the welded section 6a in the proximity of the passage 8 is opened to release the mercury 7 out therethrough. In this manner, release of mercury in unwanted direction can be eliminated, thus preventing drop of electron radioactive matters, fluorescent matters and the like.
