Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve a yield rate of mercury, by emitting mercury in a capsule into a bulb due to a high voltage applied between a mercury-sealed-in metallic capsule placed near an electrode and other electrode.
CONSTITUTION: A metallic capsule 1 is shaped in a cylinder, its ends are pressedly sealed, and a given volume of liquid mercury 2 is enclosed in it. An end of its sealed part is pressed in a flatness 3, and other end is formed in a thin cusp-shaped part 4 so that it may be easily opened due to a discharge. The flat part 3 of the metallic capsule 1 and an end of an inner lead wire 7 shall be welded together, and the cusp- shaped part 4 shall be located so that it will protrude into a discharging-space side over an electrode filament 8. When discharging is performed as a result of the voltage applied between the metallic capsule 1 and other electrode, a temperature at the cusp-shaped part 4 rises and the part 4 is melted for opening, and mercury 2 stored in its inside is vaporized to be emitted into a bulb 9.
