Abstract

PURPOSE:To make thick the thickness of lubricant film so as to effectively develop the lubricating action, and to carry out the wire drawing work hardly causing the seizure, by making unevenness of specified roughness upon the surface of the raw steel wire whose skin is peeled off, and by supplying high pressure lubricant through the wire drawing pass. CONSTITUTION:The raw steel wire is prepared by rolling and then by peeling off the skin so as to smooth the surface; this raw steel wire is treated by pickling or shot blast; hereby, the unevenness of uniform roughness at 4-20mum is made upon the surface. This raw steel wire is drawn while the high pressure lubricant is being supplied. According to this method, the pretreatment process is simplified, and the supply pressure of lubricant is reduced to about 30% of the yield stress of the raw wire depending on the effect of pretreatment and the effect of lubricant sealed in the uneven surface; hereby, the wire drawing work for the raw steel wire of high rigidity is simplified, and the high quality steel wire can be manufactured.
