Abstract
PURPOSE: To form a Cr plated layer having the uniform quality as desired without causing a local defective plating, by removing the grown smut after applying an anode oxidizing process to the surface of a cast iron parts when the Cr plating is applied on the surface of the said parts.
CONSTITUTION: A number of piston rings 6, etc. made of the cast iron containing the graphite in its texture are attached to a rod electrode 2, and this electrode 2 is dipped into the electrolyte 5 in a processing tank 4 to be used as an anode. A cathode 7 is proided around the anode. Then the electric conduction is applied from a power supply 8 between the anode and the cathode to carry out an anode process. In order to remove the smut grown on the surface through the above-mentioned anode process, the Cr plating solution or its diluted solution which is used in the next process is sprayed along with the compressed air onto the surface of the ring 6 while turning the ring 6. The ring 6 from which the smut is completely removed is put into a plating tank and applied with the Cr plating as a cathode. As the smut has eliminated, a Cr plated layer of uniform quality is obtained.
