Abstract
PURPOSE:To prolong service life by using the one diffusion permeated with boron as constituting parts making slide contact with a magnetic tape. CONSTITUTION:Boron is permeated on the slide contact part 14 of a guide pin 5 and the opposing side faces of large diameter parts 13, 13' through roughing then boronizing treatment, whereby a surface hardened layer is formed. At this time, the surface of the guide pin 5 becomes rough owing to the boron diffusion treatment, hence grinding is applied to finish the same to specified surface finish. The Vickers hardness of the surface hardened layer of the guide pin 5 obtained in this way improves to 1300 to 1500 kg/cm<2> and the abrasion resistance to a magnetic tape 4 improves to about 10 times that of the one which is not subjected to boronizing treatment.
