Abstract

PURPOSE: To convert organic wastes into compost by a small-sized equipment in a short time, by using the most vigorously fermenting raw material successively as a seed.
CONSTITUTION: Organic wastes such as activated sludge, by-products of fish- and meal-processing, etc., is dried to a water-content of 40W60% by sun-drying, low temperature drying, etc. 5W50 Vol%, pref. 10W20 vol% of a fermenting organic waste is added to the above raw material, and charged into a fermentor in a bulky state, and fermented introducing hot air (25W30°C) at a rate of 1W10 vol% per min. The fermentation reaches the most vigorous state after 8W16 hours and keeps its state for 2W6 hours. A part of the vigorously fermenting material is extracted from the fermentor to use as the seed of the next batch, and the remaining part of the material is continued the fermentation. After sufficient fermentation, the product is dried to a water content of 5W20% by aerating still it is hot, and crushed and sieved to obtain the objective compost.
