Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A tricyclic compound of formula I (X is H, halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy; n is 1,2; R1 and R2 are H, lower alkyl; one of the two dotted bonds is double bond provided that when R2 is lower alkyl, the N atom bonded with the R2 does not form a double bond, and when both X and R1 are H and n is 1, R2 is lower alkyl.).
EXAMPLE: 2, 3, 4, 9-Tetrahydro-4-methylbenzo[b]cyclopenta[e][1,4]diazepin-10 (1H)-one.
USE: Traquilizer and analgesic having lower hypnotic and muscle relaxing effects than known benzodiazepin derivatives.
PROCESS: The compound I is prepared by the ring-closing reaction of the compound II in a solvent such as methanol, ethanol, etc., in the presence or absence of sodium alkoxide, at 50W200°C, and if necessary alkylating the product.
