EXAMPLE: N2-3',5'-O-Triacetyl-O6-methanesulfonyl-2'-deoxyguanosine.
USE: A synthetic intermediate of 2'-deoxy-6-thioguanosine or 6-substituted-2'-deoxyguanosine derivatives, which are used as antitumorigenic agents.
PREPARATION: The reaction of 2'-deoxyguanosine of formula III with a corresponding alkylsulfonyl halide or arenesulfonyl halide is conducted in a solvent such as pyridine in the presence of a base such as tributylamine, e.g., at 0°C W room temperature for 1 W several hrs to give the compound of formula I.
