Abstract

PURPOSE: To make a reduction widely capable of the durable capacity of overcurrent, by rapidly making the the inverter output voltage to a level of zero in a method of forcibly causing a commutation failure in the inverter, in case of detecting an overcurrent.
CONSTITUTION: When the load current goes up to a level of approximately 150% of the rated current, the detection is operated firstly with an auxiliary thyristor S1 turned on in a chopper circuit CH. This causes a main thyristor S3 to be turned off. With the main thyristor S3 turned off, a voltage, applied to a power inverter unit IV from the chopper circuit CH, becomes instantaneously zero, and so the input power source is disconnected to the power inverter unit IV, causing a commutation failure. At this time, a charged electricity and overcurrent in the smoothing condenser C2 are made to flow through in a phase of the power inverter unit where the commutation failure is caused.
