Abstract

PURPOSE: CaO-SiO2-H2O system is added with KOH and the container of which is agitated by rotation or shaking to render the content uniform, thereby to provide fibrous calcium silicate hydrate crystal having a property of good shape retention and little weight reduction at high temperature treating.
CONSTITUTION: Aquaeous 0.5 to 5N KOH solution, CaCO3, and SiO2 are charged in a reactor, leaving a space over the liquid level, and the reacotr is being rotated or shaken horizontally or around near-horizontal axis for hydro-heat treatment. The hydro-heat treatment conditions are Ca/Si molar ratio of 0.6 to 1.2 preferably 0.7 to 1.0, water to solid weight ratio of more than 5, preferably 10 to 30, under a pressure of 5 to 20 kg/cm2G, and at a temperature of less than 214°C. The resultant fibrous calcium silicate hydrate is useful as inorganic fiber for heat insulation, cement reinforcement, etc.
