Abstract

PURPOSE: An impact-resitant resin having improved moldability, obtained by grafting a specific amount of vinyl chloride onto ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer with relatively small vinyl acetate content.
CONSTITUTION: Vinyl chloride is grafted onto ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) with vinyl acetate component content of 15W30 wt.% with about 0.01W 1 wt.% based on EVA of a dispersant and the same amount of an oil-soluble polymerization initiator dispersed in a water medium at 30W80°C to give a EVA- vinyl chloride graft copolymer with EVA content of 25W55 wt.% and vinyl acetate component content based on EVA of 15W30%. In the beginning of graft polymerization, preferably vinyl chloride and EVA are fed in an amount to keep a weight ratio of vinyl chloride to EVA of about 1/1W3.5/1 and a weight ratio of (vinyl chloride and its polymer)/EVA is maintained at the above-mentioned value until about 20 wt.% of vinyl chloride is polymerized. About not more than 30 wt.% based on vinyl monomer of a monomer copolymerizable with vinyl monomer may be used.
