Abstract
PURPOSE: To title composition having improved processing characteristics and practical impact strength, consisting of a specific graft copolymer of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer and vinyl chloride and vinyl chloride polymer.
CONSTITUTION: A) A vinyl chloride monomer is grafted onto B) an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer having 18W28 wt.% of vinyl acetate in a weight ratio of A) to B) of 1/1W3.5/1 in the presence of a water medium, a dispersing agent, and an oil- soluble polymerization initiator in such a way that a ratio of a sum of an amount of vinyl chloride monomer fed and its polymer to EVA is maintained 1/1W3.5/1 until not less than 20 wt.% of initial feed of vinyl chloride is polymerized to give C) a graft copoylmer of EVA and vinyk chloride containing 25W55 wt.% of EVA having 15W30 wt.% of vinyl acetate. The graft copolymer C) is blended with D) polyvinyl chloride having a degree of polymerization of 500W1800 and/or a vinyl chloride copolymer in such a way as to give EVA content of 2W20 wt./ in C and D.
