Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a soft graft copolymer having excellent moldability, cold resistance, flame resistance, etc., by grafting, in a specified weight ratio, a vinyl chloride type monomer onto an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer.
CONSTITUTION: A graft copolymer of vinyl acetate and a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate or an 1W8C alkyl acrylate (the copolymer is hereinafter referred to as EVA) is prepared by grafting, onto EVA, vinyl chloride or a mixture of vinyl chloride and a copolymerizable monomer (hereinafter abbreviated as a vinyl chloride type monomer) in the presence of an aqueous medium, a polymerization intiator, a crosslinking monomer, etc. The content of vinyl acetate of the 1W18C alkyl acrylate of the EVA is set at 5W50wt% and the weight ratio of vinyl chloride type monomer to EVA at the time of feed is set at 0.5/1W4/1.
