Abstract
PURPOSE: To make it unnecessary to prepare much reference liquid, which is adjusted to an accurate concentration, in an ion concentration analyzer using an ion sensitive electrode by using every time the liquid of suitable ion concentration, which has been measured with a reference liquid, as a calibration liquid upon the measurement of a sample.
CONSTITUTION: The electromotive forces of two kinds of reference liquid having different concentrations aL and aH (both of which are known) and a calibration liquid having a concentration aS (of any value) are measured to obtain their respective values EL, EH and ES. Equations I and II (wherein: ΔEL=ES-EL; ΔEH=EH-ES; and S stands for concentration gradient of an ion electrode) are usd to calculate S and aS. Then, this calibration liquid is used to alternately and consecutively measure a sample liquid having a concentration ax (which is unknown) and the aforementioned calibration liquid. The resultant values Ex and ES are used to calculate the concentration aX of the sample liquid in accordance with Equation III (wherein EX=EX-ES). In other words, since the liquid of any concentration, which has been measured only once, can be used many times for the calibration of the sample liquid, the calibration of the measured values can be remarkably facilitated.
