Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the captioned component mainly based on calcium oxide and phenolphthalene which is capable of quantitatively measuring the hygroscopic value of neutral powder/ granules containing a comparatively lower percentage of moisture quickly and easily. CONSTITUTION:(A) calcium oxide and (B) phenolphthalene are blended in such manner that the content of (B) component may be equivalent to a value falling within the limits of 0.1-10% of the weight of a component and the content of (B) component may be equivalent to a value falling within the range of 0.1-15% of the total value of (B) component and (A) component. Thus the captioned component can be obtained. In order to quantitatively measure the hygroscopic value of powder/granules using this component, the reference sample of a material to be tested containing an accurate percentage of moisture is prepared and a prearranged rate of the afore-mentioned component is added to the said sample and is uniformly blended. Following this procedure, an array of samples for test indicating color concentrations according to the moisture contents are prepared and the component is added to samples to be tested at the same rate. Thus they are uniformly blended to be left coloring. The colors shown in this way are compared with samples for test purposes to determine a hygroscopic value.
