Abstract
PURPOSE: To make packing material, opening-and-closing apparatus for tap hole unnecessary, hereby simplifying the tapping operation, by installing a pig iron reservoir povided with slide type ON-OFF valve at the tap hole of a blast furnace, and by tapping pig iron with the slide type ON-OFF valve opened.
CONSTITUTION: A pig iron reservoir 3 is connected to the tap hole 2 of a blast furnace 1 through a connecting passage 4, and the leakage of pig iron is prevented by stamp material 13, 14. The molten pig iron stays in the pig iron reservoir 3. In the case of tapping, the molten pig iron is discharged from the reservoir 3 to tapping spouts 9, 10 with the slide valves 7, 8 of slide type tapping hole 5 or 6 opened. The tap hole 6 is also used for discharging residual pig iron. This method, unlike when packing is used, causes no infiltration of the molten pig iron to the packing, and no difficulty due to the burning, solidification of packing. If the pig iron reservoir 3 is made movable horizontally by hanging it on rails, it is possible to use plugging material such as mud as in a conventional method.
