Abstract

PURPOSE: To accomplish complete decomposition of municipal waste within the system almost eliminating auxiliary fuel except for at the start up while the slag is withdrawn out of the system for re-use.
CONSTITUTION: Municipal waste in a pit 1 is fed into a dryer 3 with a crane 2 through a feed opening 4. After dried down to about 20% by weight, it is inducted to a vertical furnace 5. The waste in the furnace is dried from above while causing decomposition of organic components, gasification of solid carbon and melting of inorganic substance. Melted slag produced at the bottom is withdrawn from the lower end of the vertical furnace and discharged out of the system through an extinguishing/cooling section 7. On the other hand, the top gas is self-burnt with an after burner 8. The waste combustion gas thus obtained is partly inducted to the dryer 3 through lines 11 and 12 after the recovery of heat with an air heater 9 and a waste heat boiler 10. The waste gas is discharged out of the system after purified by a dust collector 16 and a scrubber 17.
