Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a piston ring of high resistance to seizure, by spraying a stamping powder of an Fe-C-Cr alloy onto at least part of the sliding surface of the piston ring by plasma. CONSTITUTION:The grains of the stamping powder of the Fe-C-Cr alloy containing 55 to 70% of Cr and 3 to 9% of C are rounded to a size of 44 to 10mu. The powder is plasma-sprayed to a thickness of 0.2 to 0.35mm in a recess of the piston ring made of cast iron or of steel. The plasma-sprayed powder is ground to a thickness of about 0.1 to 0.25mm. The wear-resisting property and seizure-resisting property of not only the piston ring but also a cylinder liner 4 are improved.
