Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the spring threshold value of brass for a contactor by adding a specific slight amt. of P and Fe to the brass and carrying out annealing at a specific temp. after cold working.
CONSTITUTION: Brass for a contactor for electrical, communications or electronic equipment consists of Zn; 25W38 wt%, P; 0.005W0.10 wt%, Fe; 0.005W0.10 wt% and the balance Cu. In order to balance the strength and workability of the brass, it is desirable to regulate the P and Fe contents to Fe; 0.015W0.035 wt% and P; 0.01W0.03 wt%. The brass is annealed at such a low temp. as 200W300°C for 5W180 min after finish cold working to enhance spring characteristics essential as a contactor. Thus, the spring threshold value of the brass is enhanced having superior strength and workability.
