Abstract
PURPOSE: To recover methanol by supplying an aqueous solution of inorganic salt containing methanol, which is taken out of the bottom of the alcohol extraction tower, into the middle stages of the alcohol distillation tower without discharging the inorganic salt and methacrylic acid from the reaction vessel.
CONSTITUTION: The distilled vapor from the esterification vessel 10 is led into the condenser 16 and taken out through the line 17. The solution in the vessel 10 is led into the decanter 13 and the organic layer is taken out through the line 15. Both of them are led into the alcohol extraction tower 21 through the line 19. The extract containing excess methanol extracted with an aqueous solution of inorganic salt 20 is supplied to the middle stages of the alcohol distillation tower 26 through the line 23, to recover the alcohol 27 from the top of the tower. The aqueous solution of the inorganic salt and methacrylic acid are recovered from the bottom of the tower. The organic layer of the extraction residue in the tower 21 is taken out through the line 22 and subjected to the purification of methacrylate and the recovery of the extracted inorganic solvent. The water formed is taken out as vapor from the side flow line 32.
