Abstract

PURPOSE: Simple means to provide and adherent, uniform thickness plating layer on the internal surface of an elongated metal pipe is provided by electrolytically treating the elongated pipe placed in vertical position as a cathode and a metal rod as an anode inserted inside.
CONSTITUTION: A conventionally pretreated zircalloy pipe 1 (10 mm I.D., top end open, bottom end closed) is located vertically, filled with copper plating solution 3 and a 4 mm copper rod 5 having insulating tube 4 is inserted into the pipe 1. Electroplating is conducted as a proper condition while the zircalloy pipe 1 is made cathode and the copper rod 5 anode. The copper rod 5 is rotated at 0.2 rpm while being vertically reciprocated at 10 mm amplitude. When 10 mm zircalloy pipe 1 is plated, preferable dimension of copper rod 5 is 0.5 to 5 mm. the agitation of plating solution 3 gives even current density, providing adherent, uniform thickness copper layer on the internal surface of the zircalloy pipe 1.
