Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title hollow fibers usable for medical treatment, separation, and concentration, having improved uniformity and dimensional stability, by using undrawn hollow polypropylene fibers prepared under specific conditions.
CONSTITUTION: Polypropylene having a melt index of 1W40 at the spinning temperature is spun through a hollow fiber spinneret at a temperatur ranging from the melting point to 210°C and a spinning draft of 30W1000 into fibers. The undrawn fibers thus obtained are drawn to form porous fibers, which are heat-set at 80W 165°C.
EFFECT: Even porous hollow fibers of coarse denier having an inside diameter> 100μ, improved uniform porous structure, high gas permeability, and dimensional stability can be obtained.
