Abstract

PURPOSE:To avoid overheat of a thermal head to extend its life, by providing means for controlling thermal head drive in a printer using a thermal head for a typing head when the typing head is apart from a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:Release lever 31 is rotatable from position A to D around shaft 32. When recording paper is charged and lever 31 is set to A, dowel 34 made in one body with laver 31 rotates arms 40 and 42 to the positions 41' and 42', respectively. A thermal head and a pinch roller are released from the paper, and this state is suitable for charging the paper. Microswitch is off, and current is not flowed to the head even if typing instruction is given by mistake, accordingly, there is no danger of overheat of the head. In the position B, dowel 34 is not in contact to lever 42, and the pinch roller presses the paper, and other conditions are similar to position A, and optimum for start of typing and for change of the end position. Position C is a typing position for normal recording paper and position D is that for pin feed paper.
