Abstract

PURPOSE: To minimize the effect of accident allowing the failure position to locate above the core even occurring loss of coolant accident assuming a failure accident of driving shaft of coolant circulation pump.
CONSTITUTION: Coolant is driven by impeller 3 of coolant circulatiin pump to make a flow rate of core section 2. Steam generated within core 2 is delivered to the outside of core through vapor water separator 5 and steam drier 6 to drive the steam turbine. The impeller 3 of coolant circulation pump is driven with motor 17 located at the outside of atomic reactor pressure vessel 1 through shaft 15. Since the shaft 15 is penetrated through the atomic reactor pressure vessel 1 at the shaft penetration section 15a located above the bottom of core, by any chance even this section is failed and occurred an imaginary accident of loss of coolant and the like, the liquid level of cooland may be only lowered till 11 to facilitate re-submersion after the accident.
