CONSTITUTION: In the preparation of diacetoxybutene by the gas-phase reaction of butadiene and acid with O2 in the presence of a catalytic system comprising a VIII group noble metal as main component and an alkali metal acetate and an alkali halide as co-catalyst component, acetic acid salt of said alkali metal (e.g. Cs acetate, K acetate, etc.) and an alkali halide is supplied to the reaction system during the reaction to keep the high activity and the selectivity of the catalyst for a long period.
