Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the time required for freezing sludge to a greeat extent, by removing unfreezed sludge existing at the top surface of freezed sludge.
CONSTITUTION: Sludge introduced into tank 1 is freezed by way of heat exchange with low-pressure cooling liquid passed in heat exchanging plates 2a to 2d, but sludge swelled upward at the central portion between adjacent heat exchanging plates 2a 2d is too remote from the plates 2a 2d to be freezed thereby and it takes a fairly long time to freeze the sludge located at the above-mentioned portion, as compared with time required to freeze sludge located at other portions. Therefore, sludge 7 located at the portion is discharged to the outside in its unfreezed condition by ejecting water from nozzles 6a of pipe 6, at the time when freezing of sludge located at other portions is completed. After ejection of water is stopped, high-pressur coolant is passed through the plates 2a 2d to melt freezed sludge by way of heat exchanging therewith. Then, molten sludge is discharged to the outside of the apparatus, thereby accomplishing separation of sludge into solid and liquid.
