Abstract
PURPOSE: To block gaps described in the title simple practicd so as to extend life- time of furnace wall, by charging foamy hydrated alkali silicate glass into a gaps made between outer iron shell and refractory lining layer, or into gaps made between refractory lining layers, and by heating the glass in order to expand it.
CONSTITUTION: Gaps 5 made previously between outer shell 1 and refractory layer 2, or vacant spaces, which has been made during operation of the furnace in the furnace wall, after perforation, is filled with powder or particles of foamy hydrated alkalisilicate glass 6 by natural press. or under press. The glass 6 is manufactured by mixing powdered alkali silicate of molar ration SiO2/M2O (M: Na or K) of 1.5W4.0 with water or with aq. soln. contg. boric acid component or phosphoric acid component. Heating the powder of the galss 6 charged into gaps 5 makes the glas 6 fuse, expand, solidify, and fill the gaps 5 and blocks them while foaming. The blocking material is high in fire resistance and thermal insulating property and prevents the red heat of the outer shell 1.
