Abstract
PURPOSE: To maintain activated sludge on fixed beds in an aerobic state and dispose of high-concentration organic waste water, by coating the activated sludge on porous pieces to form the fixed beds and arranging the fixed beds perpendiculary or radially to baffles in an aeration vessel.
CONSTITUTION: The organic waste water is introduced into the aeration vessel 1 to a level higher than the top of the baffles 5. An air dispersing unit 3 is started to supply compressed air from air dispersing pipes 4 into the aeration vessel. The compressed air flows up as bubbles along the baffles 5 and lifts the waste water. Then, the waste water enters into a disposal chamber 7 and swirls downward. Since the fixed beds 8 are oriented perpendicularly or radially to the baffles 5, the waste water is kept from partially flowing and oxygen is uniformly supplied to the entire fixed beds 8. Because the waste water swirls downward between the fixed beds 8, old sludge falls off not to clog.
