Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify the construction and reduce the cost of a subsequent electric circuit by selecting a spring member such that the resonant frequency to be determined by a body of inertial mass and a spring constant becomes substantially equal to the automatic fequency generated as a result of knocking.
CONSTITUTION: When a knocking takes in an engine combustion chamber 22, the detonation waves are transmitted as mechanical vibrations to a cylinder block 21. As a result, a casing 1 is vibrated in the frequency intrinsic to that during the knocking. The resonant frequency of the vibratory system, which is composed of a body 6 of ineral mass and leaf springs 7 and 8, is so selected as to become substantially equal to the frequency of the vibrations due to the knocking. Piezoelectric elements 2 and 3 are hit by a strong force through a spring receiver 5. As a result, a voltage is generated at the both terminals of the elements 2 and 3, and the high output is obtained at a terminal 12 so that the knocking can be detected. Thus, it is possible to simplify the construction and reduce the cost of the electric circuit by a subsequent circuit without reguiring a band-pass filter.
