Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an acrylic resin having a high heat distorsion temperature and excellent solvent resistance, by copolymerizing methyl methacrylate with alkyl acrylates at a specific ratio and adjusting the intrinsic viscosity and the molecular weight distribution to specific ranges.
CONSTITUTION: An acrylic resin having an heat distorsion temperature (HDT) of ≥ 70°C, an intrinsic viscosity [μ] of 0.028 - 0.117 l/g and the ratio of the weight average molecular weight (Mw) to the number average molecular weight (Mn) measured by gel premeation chromatography, of 2.3 - 6, is prepared by copoly merizing methyl methacrylate with alkyl acrylates, e.g. methyl acrylate, etc., at a weight ratio e.g. of 88 - 82; 12 - 18.
EFFECT: The surface of the article molded at low mold temperature con be coated or printed without subsequent annealing, and therefore crazing or cracking can be prevented.
