Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a coating acrylic resin having improved flexibility, elasticity, weatherability, hardness, adhesivity, and pigment dispersibility, by copolymerizing n-butyl methacrylate with acrylonitrile and an unsaturated acid.
CONSTITUTION: (A) 30W99.4 wt.% of n-butyl methacrylate is copolymerized with (B) 0.5W30 wt.% of acrylonitrile, (C) 0.1W5 wt.% of an unsaturated acid, (D) 0W30 wt.% of an unsaturated group-containing polyester resin, (E) 0W25 wt.% of a polymerizable monomer having one or more hydroxyl groups in one molecule, and (F) 0W69.4 wt.% of other vinyl monomers copolymerizable with components (A)W(E) to give a copolymer having the glass transition point of -10 to 40°C and a number-average molecular weight of 5,000W10,000. Styrene, methyl (meth)acrylate, etc. may be cited as the vinyl monomers (F).
