Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled eumulsion capable of giving a molded article having improved water resistance without whitening by moisture absroption, by the emulsion copolymerization of a specific monomer containing glycidyl group under such conditions as to inhibit the cleavage of the glycidyl group.
CONSTITUTION: (A) 2W50mol% glycidyl (meth)acrylate is copolymerized with (B) 50W98mol% copolymerizable monomer, preferably ethyl acrylate, by the emulsion polymerization method. In the process, 60W90wt% monomer (B) is first subjected to the emulsion polymerization to give a polymeric emulsion. The remaining monomer (B) and the total amount of the monomer (A) are added thereto, and the emulsion polymerization is carried out at 0W40°C and a pH of 4W10 to give the aimed emulsion containing 0.3mol% or more, calculated as the monomeric units (A), uncleaved glycidyl groups on the particle surfaces of the high polymeric emulsion. An azo polymerization initiator is preferred as the initiator.
USE: Suitable for a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer.
