Abstract

PURPOSE:To effect surface treatment of one side of a steel strip with high productivity without remodeling a device largely, by bonding both edges of one steel strip to those of the other with the steel strip facing each other with an adhesive mass of an alginic acid-water-glass mixture, by treating the outer surface of the bonded strips, and by separating the surface treated strips into two treated strips. CONSTITUTION:The one side of the strip 11 unwounded from the uncoiler 11 is coated with an adhesive mass on both edges in the length direction and given width by the adhesive mass applicator 2. The tacking agent comprising 1-7wt.% of alginic acid, not more than 4 wt.% of water-glass, and, if necessary, 0.5-4 wt.% of graphite. The strip 12 unwound from the uncoiler 3 is placed on the strip 11 by the roll 13. After being heated by the heating oven 4, the two strips 11 and 12 are pressed slightly by the press rolls 5 and 5, and the temporarily bonded strips are plated by the plating bath 7. The strip 11 and 12 from the plating bath are seperated by the leveler and separating rollers 8 and 8, wound respectively by the coiler 9 and 10 separately.
