Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect the position of the base of fused zone simply and surely, by detecting the position of the base of softened and fused ore zone in a blast furnace through measurement of temp. distribution and thermal load on the furnace wall. CONSTITUTION:Ore softens just before melting, and the softened and fused zone 5 is distributed generally as shown by figure. In the inner part enclosed by the softened and fused zone 5, the molten ore begins to flow down or has flowed down as shown by an arrow 6 through coke layers 3. In the part, where fused zone 5 is not yet formed, the ore 2 is being heated and not yet softened. At the parts just above the base of the fused zone 5, a large quantity of heat is transferred to the furnace wall because a large quantity of heat is carried by laterally-flowing gas. Consequently, the position 5' at the base of softened and fused zone 5 is detected by measuring temp. distribution or thermal load on the furnace wall 7, particularly in peripheral or vertical direction of the bosh. The detection is carried out either by inserting thermocouples into the furnace wall bricks, or by arranging temp. sensing elements in the stave.
