Abstract

1531896 Pre-heating batch material ISHIKAWAJIMA-HARIMA JUKOGYO KK 23 July 1976 [31 July 1975] 30889/76 Heading C1M Finely-divided raw materials for glass are preheated by the exhaust gases from the glass-melting furnace, the exhaust gases being introduced at a temperature below the melting temperature of the raw materials into a suspension type heat exchange system and directly contacted with the raw materials. Exhaust gases from furnace 1 are drawn successively through flue 4, duct 11, cyclone 9, duct 10, cyclone 8 and duct 13 to chimney 6 by blower 12. Finely-divided batch material is introduced by feeder 14 into duct 10, is recovered from cyclone 9 and is fed by feeder 15 into furnace 1. Batch material separated by cyclone 8 is introduced into cyclone 9 via duct 11. Dust recovered from the exhaust gases at 7 is returned to feeder 14. The batch materials, which may be of particle size 300-1000Á, may be heated to 300-400‹ C. The exhaust gas flow rate and temperature (in duct 11) are sensed by meter 17 and sensor 18 respectively, and, should the temperature be too high, signal generator 19 actuates damper 21 to introduce additional air into duct 11. An auxiliary melting furnace (Fig. 3, not shown) may be provided between cyclone 9 and furnace 1.
