Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the yield of the blooming work, by water cooling the top and bottom portions of the steel ingot being taken out of the soaking pit, for the purpose of specified degrees lowering the surface temperature of the ingot than the internal temperature, and next, by carrying out the blooming work. CONSTITUTION:The steel ingot 1 is taken out of the soaking pit 3 and is put on the carrying table 5 in front of the blooming mill 4; then, the top T and bottom B portions of steel ingot are water cooled by ring type sprays 61, 62, so as to more than 150 deg.C lower the surface temperature of steel ingot than the internal temperature. Next, under this condition, the blooming work is carried out; hereupon, the molten steel at the axial center zone relatively well stretches and is spread as far as the end portions; hence, the folding defect and the segregation at the top T and bottom B portions are reduced.
