Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the yield of the blooming, by water cooling the top and bottom portions of the steel ingot after taking away from the soaking pit, so as to give a specified temperature dfference between the surface and interior, and further, by performing the rolling on the bottom at a limited draft percentage under a strong rolling load in the latter half of the rolling pass schedule. CONSTITUTION:The steel ingot 1 taken away from the soaking pit 3 is placed on the carrying table 5 of the blooming mill 4; and then, the top portion T and the bottom portion B of the steel ingot 1 are water cooled by the ring type sprays 61 and 62 so as to make 150 deg.C or more lower the surface temperature of the steel ingot than the internal temperature. After that, in the case of the blooming, the rolling is carried out under a strong rolling reduction taking the ratio of draft percentages between the bottom rolling and the top rolling as above two, at the latter half of the pass schedule. Hereby, the molten steel at the axial center portion relatively satisfactorily stretches being spread as far as the end portions, so that the folding defect and the segregation at the top and bottom portins are extremely reduced.
