Abstract

PURPOSE:To shorten the access time equivalently by providing RAM to the magnetic tape unit to secure transfer the heat position information of the magnetic tape to RAM and then using the information for the information to be used repetitively or for the information index on the tape. CONSTITUTION:RAM24 is provided to the magnetic tape unit, and the information of head block HD of the magnetic tape is read out via the operation of reading control circuit 22 and magnetic tape driving part 21 to be transferred to RAM24 via transmission control circuit 27. The information transferred to RAM24 can be read or written by the address signal given from access control circuit 25. And the access of RAM24 becomes possible under the premise that the loading action end signal has been set to state display register 20 from circuit 27 via loading control circuit 29. While in the case of unloading, the control signal is applied to writing control circuit 23 from unloading control circuit 28 via circuit 27. And then the magnetic tape is rewound to write the contents of RAM24 into head block HD.
