Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an oriented polyester bottle having high transparency and strength, and small deformation by filling with hot liquid, and free from dimensional changes by time, by heat-setting an oriented polyester bottle by selecting the heat- setting condition according to the orientation degree of specific position, while applying internal pressure to the bottle.
CONSTITUTION: An oriented bottle of a polyester (having an intrinsic viscosity of ≥ 0.50), e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, etc., is set by heating in a mold while applying internal pressure of ≥ 1 kg/cm2G, to the bottle. The heat-setting is carried out at a temperature T1 [(Tg+10)°C≤ T1 ≤ (Tg+50)°C] for 15 sec to 3 min at a low orientation part where the areal orientation degree (▵P) is ≥ 90 × 10-3; and at a temperature T2 [(Tg+60)°C≥ T2 ≥ 235°C; pref. (Tg+80)°C ≤ T2 200°C for ≥ 1 sec at a high orientation part where the areal orientation degree (▵P) is > 90 × 10-3. After the heat-setting, the low orientation part is cooled below (Tg+10)°C, and the high orientation is cooled below (Tg+ 60°C) while applying the internal pressure to the bottle.
